Dear Friends,

Happy November! We cannot believe how fast this term is going and that Christmas is just around the corner.

If you are like a lot of our staff here at XLP, it’s about this time of year where you can begin to feel a little tired and overwhelmed at all there is left to do before the end of the year! It’s getting darker early in the evening, people’s diaries are filling up, and you start to wonder how you are going to fit it all in! We wanted to encourage you to keep going, especially those of you who are trying to get mentors on board, or negotiate difficult conversations with schools. We also want to say a massive ‘well done’ to those of you who have begun to run your mentor training or are getting referrals in. Everyone will be at different stages in this process…and if any of you feel like sharing your own highs and lows of the experience, we would love for you to write a blog for us (there is a video that shows you how to do it in ‘Coordinators Help’ or you can just send it to

This year has been an incredibly exciting year for us at XL-Mentoring and we want to take this opportunity to thank you so much for the support you have shown us. It has been incredible to hear the stories of hundreds of people from all over the UK who are passionate about reaching out to vulnerable young people in their communities. We know that the Church is working hard in this country to be a light to those who are hurting and struggling the most, and we feel privileged to be a part of that work.

Since launching our 2-day training in July, we have had over 50 churches & organisations begin to set up their own local community mentoring projects! That means 250 young people across the UK who are struggling with life, feeling hopeless about their future, and at risk of social and educational exclusion will be given the opportunity to have a mentor invest in them. That’s 250 young people and their families who wouldn’t have necessarily engaged with the local church in other way. And that is all down to YOU – the brave individuals and churches/organisations who are stepping out in faith and determination to see those relationships develop. You have become part of our national mentoring movement – to see every young person in the UK have a positive adult role model.

At the end of this month, we will be releasing all of our 2014 training dates which will be taking place all over the UK. This is an exciting step for us as we continue to encourage and equip the UK Church to build relationships with those young people who need it most.

Please let us know how we can continue to serve and resource you. Next week we will be posting a blog about recruiting mentors as well as a few guidelines on fundraising, so check back here. In the mean time, check out our Coordinators Forum and join in the conversation 🙂
